Iconic film: Guess who's coming to dinner (1967)

Good morning! We begin the week going back to a section I have neglected a bit: the iconic film posts.

“Guess who’s coming to dinner” is a 1967 film directed by Stanley Kramer and starred by Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn and Sidney Poitier, in my opinion three phenomenon of the big screen.

The film tells the story of Joanna Drayton (Katherine Houghton) daughter of newspaper publicist Matt Drayton (Spencer Tracy) and art gallery owner Christina Drayton (Katherine Hepburn), a white young woman who lives a whirlwind romance with Dr. John Prentice (Sidney Poitier) a young black doctor she met during a trip to Hawai.

The plot centers on Joanna return to her home, bringing her fiancé to dinner to meet her parents. Even though she’s received a very liberal education, her parents are extremely shocked when they found out that their future son-in-law is a black man. Joanna is very surprised as she was taught to treat blacks and members of other racial groups as equals and doesn’t understand her parents reaction. On the other hand, John’s parents travel to San Francisco to meet their future daughter-in-law, without knowing that she’s a white woman…

The film depicts the subject of racism as few films have ever done. It is also notable for being the final on-screen pairing of Tracy and Hepburn. Tracy just died 17 days after the ending. Hepburn never saw the completed film: she said the memories of Tracy were too painful…

Ladies, a jewel that you can’t miss!!

Happy beginning of the week!!

The happy couple

The astonished parents

The maid, Tillie, doesn't like Mr. Prentice!!

One of the most beautiful final speeches I've ever heard in a film
